I have just returned from PNG after completing the second Impact Award to SYSPRO 6.1 upgrade done in that country.
Impact Award 3.2 was released in November 1997 and was the second of four names that he product has had during it's 30 years.
The first was just Impact then Impact Award and then Impact Encore and finally SYSPRO in October 2002.
The upgrade process involved moving all the data from a Unix version of Impact Award 3.2 to a windows based version of Impact Award 3.2 then upgrading that data to Impact Encore 4.0, SYSPRO 6.08, SYSPRO 6.09, SYSPRO 6.010SP2 and then SYSPRO 6.1. The data was then updated from C-ISAM to SQL.
The most amazing thing about this was that the data from that 12.5 year old version of Impact Award was retailed in the final SYSPRO 6.1 version with the exception of the Report Writer reports, owing to alignment of the file structures with SQL necessitating name changes to the fields and the splitting out of the original multi record files into separate files to match the SQL tables, and some master file amendment journal records.
The Sales History data, which was changed dramatically some years ago, was simply recreated from the Sales transactions that remained in the data.
I doubt that any of our competition could accomplish the same task as easily, and it speaks volumes about the integrity of the system design that I could do this for a customer who thought initially that they would have to start all over.
SYSPRO really is a great product!
I am biased but the product does speak for itself.
